 Measles vaccination in U.S
By: Jairo Fonseca

The outbreak of measles cases across the country has affected some states more than others. Not surprisingly, the rules for vaccination vary from coast to coast. For instance, California has more than 90 people infected with the measles virus this year. Now every state requires vaccinations, and every state also allows exemptions for medical reasons, such as if the child has a weak immune system. In many states, Vaccination children: one is religious reasons and the other is philosophical reasons. The two states with the strictest vaccine requirements are Mississippi and West Virginia, which does not allow religious or philosophical exemptions. Now 90% of humans who are not vaccinated and are close to someone with measles has a higher chance of getting infected.

Record Snowfall for the Midwest and Northeast
By: Lourdes Gonzalez
Snow’s covering the streets in the northern United States, bringing problems for every state. While Boston’s piling high with a record-setting 40.2 inches of snow, flights and classes are being cancelled more often than not. The storm is currently still powering on, dumping up to 19 inches of snow in the Chicago area.
Streets are closed down in some cities; because of this, the parade Boston was to hold for the Patriots was postponed until the fourth of February. Over 1,800 flights have also been cancelled both in to and out of the affected areas. Multiple airlines issued waivers for passengers to change their flights without penalty as the storm is inevitable.

Je Suis Charlie

By: Rshwined Scott

France and the world of journalism received horrible news on January 7th when satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo was stormed by three Islamic Frenchmen carrying AK-47’s. Calling the cartoonist by their names, They massacred them one by one. By the end of the attack there were 10 cartoonist and two policemen dead , and no captured murderers. This attack took the world and especially all of France by surprise seeing as France is a country which values freedom including that of expression and speech, extremely highly. This attack was brought on by the newspapers controversial cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

On January 9th just days after the horrible attack on Charlie hebdo , France suffered another attack this one  A hostage standoff of an Islamic man claiming to  be working along side ISIS; the extremist terrorist group vs Parisian police. The man identified as Coulibaly, attacked a Kosher/Jewish supermarket killing four jewish customers, and critically wounding another four. This was viewed as an Anti-Semantic act by the country seeing as the man stated to the police before being killed that he had specifically chosen the market because of it being Jewish.

French Police and Army is now working on keeping all citizens secure, seeing as ISIS has threatened to keep the attacks coming. All citizen on their part are pledging support to all of those who have died by using the hashtag #JeSuisCharlie

No Texting and Driving

By: Jennifer Pastor

Courtney Ann Sanford, 32 year-old, crashed head on into a truck while using Facebook on her phone. “Sanford became distracted by using a smartphone for internet access just prior to losing control of her vehicle” the police reported. The post was posted a minute right before she died. Courtney posted “The Happy song makes me happy” WGHP reported. She wasn’t just posting comments on Facebook but also taking “selfies”. This shows that in a matter of seconds a life could be taken away. She could have avoided that if she would have waited to get to her destination. What happened to Courtney Ann Stanford could happen to anyone. Don’t let the temptation of looking at your phone kill you. Be cautious when driving and keep safe.
