Nepal Earthquake

Nepal has declared three days of mourning for victims of Saturday’s
earthquake in which more than 5000 people are known to have died. Prime
minister sushil says the government is doing all it can but is over whelmed by
the catastrophe. Rescuers are still struggling to bring aid to remote Himalayan
areas. The weather conditions aren’t seemly to help … with all the heavy rain. The
UN estimates that eight million people in39 districts have been affected by the
7.8 magnitude quake. More than 10000
people have been injured. Among the dead are 18 climbers who were at Mount Everest
base camp, when it was hit by an avalanche triggered by the earthquake. Many
people and organizations are doing their best to help Nepal after this
devastation. If it isn’t the death toll Nepal has to face it’s also the
historical sites. Many of Nepal beautiful sites have been severely damaged,
like its temples and monuments, all being left without anything but ruins. Nepal
will need any help and support to rebuild and collect themselves from this
devastation that caught everyone off guard.

5 Terrorists Groups To Look Out For

Terrorists groups are getting more dangerous, and their attacks more cruel. Every time one group makes threats of new attacks, another group comes up with a distinctive, more menacing claim. The top 5 terrorists groups that have been making the news lately are Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, the Taliban, and I.S.I.S. Al-Shabaab has recently come out with a video telling their followers to imitate their attack of the mall in Kenya on another mall. There’s no evidence suggesting a U.S. mall attack, but Americans should watch out. The same day that video came out; I.S.I.S. also had a video of one of its members parading caged captives down the streets of Iraq. The Taliban has attacked a series of western facilities, including a U.S. military base in Afghanistan, and a consulate in Peshawar before. Al-Qaeda has carried out suicide attacks in far-flung nations such as Indonesia, the U.S., Kenya and Iraq. Boko Haram’s attacks have been limited to West Africa, but the terrorist group has targeted western facilities, such as the U.N. offices in Nigeria.

Riot at Willacy Correctional

On
February 20th of this year, low level offenders rioted at an
immigration detention facility in Texas in the protest of inadequate medical
services. The uprising began early Friday at Willacy County Correctional.
Located in Raymondville, Texas the facility is nicknamed Ritmo, or
Raymondville’s Guantanamo. The facility is located 40 miles from the
U.S.-Mexico border. Protesting cruel treatment, sexual abuse and insufficient
medical care, the inmates refused to work. They later went on to take over the
recreation yard and lit several fires. The inmates caused enough damage to make
the facility “uninhabitable.” Keeping a perimeter of the facility, law officers
stood around the detention center with guns in hand. No inmates were known to
have escaped. Since 2007 there have been several accusations of mistreatment
happening within the correctional facility. In 2007, four Willacy employees
were charged in relation to their use of company vans to smuggle illegal
immigrants through check points. Between 2008 through 2011, 170 allegations of
sexual abuse have been reported at Willacy. Change in the facility is not
expected to happen as these accusations of mistreatment are recurrent.
Uk Approves 3 Parents Babies Laws

On February 3rd
2015 the United Kingdom took a huge step forward by becoming the first country
in the world to pioneer in using the DNA from 3 people to make babies. The idea
behind this is to prevent the development of serious mitochondrial disorders
which can lead to serious health conditions and issues, some that could even be
mortal.
The way this would
work is that if the mother carries a disorder in her mitochondrial DNA , The
specialist remove the defective mitochondria and replace it with that of a
healthy donor.
The process consist
of removing the defective mitochondria and taking away the nucleus (which contains
most of the DNA cells), after this is done the donors healthy nucleus is input
into the mothers healthy egg, Making the hybrid cell capable of reproduction.
There is an alternative way of completing this procedure but it is a highly
controversial one. One that is opposed by many radical and religious groups. In
this alternative way the procedure is done after
fertilization, here the nucleus of the fertilized unhealthy egg is removed
and replaced by the healthy donor one. Once that is done the fertilized egg is
in put into the biological mother’s womb to fully develop to term.
This lead being a great step in science and
making the world population healthy and with less health risks will be follow
by other first world country such as the United States.
U.S Considers Supplying Arms To Ukraine

With Russian-backed separatists pressing their attacks in Ukraine, NATO's military commander, Gen.Philip M. Breedlove, now supports providing defensive weapons and equipment to Kiev's beleaguered forces, and an array of administration and military officals appear to be edging toward that position, American officals have said.
President Obama has not made his final decision on aiding Ukraine with lethal assistance. But after a series of heavy strikes that Ukraine forces have suffered in recent weeks, the Obama administration is taking a fresh look at the question of possible military aid.

The Air Pollution That's Choking Asia

Air pollution kills around seven million people every year, according to the World Health Organization, accounting for one in eight deaths worldwide in 2012. The main causes of death were stroke and heart disease, followed by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and respiratory infections among children. In both China and India, air pollution is one consequence of a massive exodus in recent decades. A factory smokestack in Beijing releases a different mix of chemical compounds into the atmosphere than an automobile tailpipe in New Delphi does. And the extension of pollution in a given city will depend on how carefully emissions are controlled and how easily they can be dispersed. A widely cited 2012 study, published in the journal Environmental Health perspective, estimated that about 339,000 deaths between 1997 and 2006 were associated with landscape fires. Africa and Southeast Asia accounted for 157.000 and 110,000 deaths, respectively, and the rate of mortality spiked during years dominated by the El Nino weather phenomenon, which typically correlates with drier conditions in Southeast Asia. Some scientists suggest that peat smoke’s long term effects on humans may be broadly similar to those to urban air pollution. Mitigating pollution is also clouded by politics countries in Southeast Asia have little control over what blows across their borders: unlike the European Union, the Association Southeast Asian Nations lacks the legal authority to force its members to act against their own interests. More than ever air pollution is a prominent target of policy reforms and public health interventions.

Lizard Squad Claims To Have Hacked Malaysian Airlines Website

After struggling to recover from two disasters last year, Airlines is hit for the third time. A hacking group called Lizard Squad allegedly hacked into the airline's website. There doesn't seem to be any information stolen, but the hackers did let the public know what happened by threatening to release data allegedly stolen. The group display a message saying "404-Plane Not Found", and also that it was "Hacked By Cyber Caliphate", adding a photo of one of the airline's jumbo jets. The browser tab for the website was also changed to say "ISIS Will Prevail." Lizard Squad is infamous for attacking Sony and Microsoft as well in the previous months.

Asia Flight Q Z8501

On December 28, 2014 Air Asia
Flight QZ8501 went down on a two hour trip from Surabaya to Singapore. The
plane had 162 people on board. The flight disappeared at 6:18. Flight 8501 was
scheduled to land in Singapore at 8:30am but it never did. Before the plane
went missing, the pilot had asked to change course. Flight 8501 was announced
missing at 8:55.
Investigators found the tail
section of the jet. It was lifted on Saturday but no black boxes were
found. A black box includes two boxes, a
cockpit voice recorder, and a Flight Data recorder. A black box weights about
20-30 pounds, they can resist practically everything. Basically a black box
records everything.
On January 12, 2015 one black
box was recovered. Divers found the flight Data recorder but have not yet found
the cock pit voice recorder. The flight data recorder gives a vast information
of what the plane was doing, including the speed. The voice pit recorder might
be found in a few days.
January 13, 2015 the second
black box was found. Which is the cock pit voice recorder this records the
pilot’s conversation. By finding the
black box and having both of them it gives a vast of information of what
happened. The voice pit recorder and flight data recorder were not found in the
same place. All the information has to be recorder to find out what was going
on and why the plane went down.

The Church of the Last Testament: A Small Utopian World in Siberia

In the nearly isolated region of
Siberia, Northern Russia, a man by the name of Vissarion claims to be Jesus in
both physical appearance and word. Creating a small eco-friendly settlement in
the mouth-opening mountains of Northern Russia. Created after the collapse of
the Soviet Union, the growing cult has attracted an estimated ten thousand
people and have created a sense of community between people of different
cultures. Curious spectators, possible future followers, and pilgrimage doers
visit the almost inhabitable areas of Siberia to find this mystic man.
The settlement was
established near the areas where Vissarion mainly preaches, composed of small
assorted villages and cult-based schools. The people grow their own food from
the Earth, encouraged to do not consume meat and live righteous lives according
to their gender roles within society. Women are encouraged to follow a life of
assistance to their husbands, while young men are taught useful skills such as
leadership, carpentry, and farming. Education for men includes useful skills
for the settlement, such as carpentry and farming. Vissarion himself is
recognized as the cult leader and a mystic figure, having a very similar
physical appearance to the Jesus of Nazareth that presumably walked the Earth
approximately 2,000 years ago. For the cult itself, Vissarion believes in a
men-centered world of no alcohol, tobacco, meat consumption, and claims that
all are welcome to join the Church of the Last Testament, as long as you travel
to the mountains of Siberia.

Obama Confirms Death of Kassig

With an unnerving amount of cases that have gone down on the Middle East, grievously, there is another case. Former U.S soldier Peter Kassig, 26, was seized while working for a refugee group. In result to being the fifth Western hostage slaughtered by ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) President Barack Obama has condemned this act of cruelty as “pure evil.” The video that was exposed displayed a masked man standing over a severed head, which then the White House confirmed was MrKassig’s.

Who Shot Bin Laden?

Who shot Pac? Who
shot Biggie? No, who shot bin Laden is
the big question. After years of being
kept in the dark, his shooter is finally ready to step into the spotlight. Americans everywhere are calling him a hero,
but he goes by the name of Rob O’Neill, a heavily experienced Navy veteran who
retired after 16 years of active duty.
This former seal team six member decided to drop his anonymity due to
the loss of some of his military benefits.
Now the once tightly held secret is being told. O’Neill admits that he was the one to fire
the shot that ultimately killed bin Laden.
According to him, it was May 2, 2011 when he delivered the bullet to
Osama bin Laden’s forehead ending his life.
Although the mission was a success he goes on to say that he and his
team had quite a pessimistic outlook on what the outcome would be. They doubted their chances of making it out
alive. But regardless of that negative
thought, they went through with the operation as planned and returned from
Pakistan triumphantly having executed the mastermind behind 9/11. Thanks to the seal team six, Americans can
now have justice after 13 years.

The Canonization of Two Popes

Huge crowds gathered on Sunday, April 27th, at St.Peter,
Square in Vatican
City to witness the canonization of John XXIII and John Paul II by Pope Francis. A huge crowd waited to catch a look. This event drew Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who decided to step down last year. Pope Francis stated that John XXIII was the pope of openness to the spirit and described John Paul II as the pope of family. “The two saints will teach people to enter more deeply into the mystery of divine mercy”. It was a ceremony to remember and history in the making.
