France and the world
of journalism received horrible news on January 7th when satirical newspaper
Charlie Hebdo was stormed by three Islamic Frenchmen carrying AK-47’s. Calling
the cartoonist by their names, They massacred them one by one. By the end of the
attack there were 10 cartoonist and two policemen dead , and no captured
murderers. This attack took the world and especially all of France by surprise
seeing as France is a country which values freedom including that of expression
and speech, extremely highly. This attack was brought on by the newspapers
controversial cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
On January 9th just days after the horrible
attack on Charlie hebdo , France suffered another attack this one A hostage standoff of an Islamic man claiming
to be working along side ISIS; the
extremist terrorist group vs Parisian police. The man identified as Coulibaly, attacked a Kosher/Jewish supermarket killing four jewish customers, and critically wounding another
four. This was viewed as an Anti-Semantic act by the country seeing as the man
stated to the police before being killed that he had specifically chosen the
market because of it being Jewish.
French Police and Army is now working on keeping all citizens secure, seeing as ISIS has threatened to keep the attacks coming. All citizen on their part are pledging support to all of those who have died by using the hashtag #JeSuisCharlie
